WHIP (Walks + Hits per Inning)
Walks plus hits allowed divided by innings pitched. Measures baserunner traffic.
Full Definition
WHIP measures the average number of baserunners a pitcher allows per inning, combining walks and hits. A low WHIP means the pitcher is keeping runners off base, which limits scoring opportunities. For NRFI betting, first-inning WHIP is especially valuable — pitchers with high first-inning WHIP regularly put runners on base early, increasing the chance of first-inning runs.
What's a good WHIP?
Below 1.00 is elite, 1.00-1.15 is excellent, 1.15-1.35 is average, above 1.40 is poor.
