Vig / Juice
The sportsbook's built-in commission on every bet, typically around 4.5-10%.
Full Definition
The vig (vigorish), also called juice, is the sportsbook's commission built into the odds. On a standard -110/-110 line, both sides imply 52.4% probability, totaling 104.8% — that extra 4.8% is the vig. You need to win more than 50% of even-odds bets to be profitable because the vig takes a cut of every wager. Understanding vig helps you calculate the true breakeven win rate and identify when odds offer genuine value versus when the margin eats your edge.
What's a good Vig / Juice?
Standard vig is -110 (4.5%). Reduced juice at -105 saves significant money long-term.
