Usage Rate (USG%)
Percentage of team plays used by a player while on the floor (shots, turnovers, free throws).
Full Definition
Usage Rate estimates the percentage of team possessions a player uses while on the court. A possession is used when a player takes a shot, commits a turnover, or gets to the free throw line. High-usage players are the focal point of their team's offense and are more likely to hit over on points and shots props. When a teammate is injured, other players' usage rates spike, creating prop value. Average usage rate is about 20% (5 players on court).
What's a good Usage Rate?
