Platoon Splits
How a player performs differently against left-handed vs right-handed opponents.
Full Definition
Platoon splits measure the performance difference when a batter faces opposite-hand pitchers (platoon advantage) vs same-hand pitchers. Right-handed batters typically hit better against left-handed pitchers, and vice versa. These splits can show OPS gaps of 50-100+ points. For prop betting, platoon splits are essential because they reveal a batter's true expectation against tonight's specific pitcher, rather than their overall season average.
What's a good Platoon Splits?
OPS differences of 50+ points between splits are significant. 100+ points is a dramatic platoon gap.
