OPS (On-Base Plus Slugging)
OBP plus SLG. The most popular single-number measure of overall offensive value.
Full Definition
OPS combines On-Base Percentage and Slugging Percentage into one number that captures both a batter's ability to get on base and hit for power. While not perfect (it weighs OBP and SLG equally, when OBP is actually more valuable), OPS is widely used because it's simple and correlates strongly with run production. For prop betting, OPS is one of the best stats to compare hitters because it captures both contact and power.
What's a good OPS?
Above .900 is elite, .800-.900 is great, .700-.800 is average, below .670 is poor.
