Net Rating
Offensive Rating minus Defensive Rating. The single best measure of overall team quality.
Full Definition
Net Rating is simply Offensive Rating minus Defensive Rating — the point differential per 100 possessions. A positive net rating means a team scores more than it allows on a per-possession basis. Net Rating is the best single predictor of team quality and playoff success, outperforming win-loss record. For betting, large net rating gaps between two teams suggest blowout potential, which can affect garbage-time stats for player props.
What's a good Net Rating?
Above +6.0 is championship contender, +3.0 to +6.0 is strong playoff team, 0 to +3.0 is average, below -3.0 is below average.
