Full Definition

Exit Velocity measures how fast a baseball leaves the bat after contact, tracked by Statcast's radar system. Average exit velocity indicates a hitter's overall contact quality, while max exit velocity shows their raw power ceiling. Exit velocity is the foundation of other Statcast metrics like Barrel Rate and Hard Hit%. Higher exit velocity correlates with more extra-base hits and home runs.
