Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%)

Field goal percentage adjusted for the extra value of three-pointers.

Full Definition

Effective Field Goal Percentage adjusts standard FG% to account for three-pointers being worth 50% more than two-pointers. The formula is (FGM + 0.5 × 3PM) / FGA. A player shooting 40% from three has an eFG% of 60% on those shots, the same as shooting 60% from two. eFG% is more useful than raw FG% for comparing scorers because it reflects the true value of their shot selection.

What's a good Effective Field Goal Percentage?

Above 55% is elite, 52-55% is above average, 48-52% is average, below 46% is inefficient.
