Chase Rate
Percentage of pitches outside the strike zone that a batter swings at.
Full Definition
Chase Rate (also called O-Swing%) measures how often a batter swings at pitches outside the strike zone. High chase rates indicate undisciplined hitters who expand the zone, leading to more strikeouts and weaker contact. For pitching strikeout props, matching a high chase rate batter against a pitcher with good secondary stuff is ideal. For hitting props, batters with low chase rates tend to get better pitches to hit and produce more consistent offensive numbers.
What's a good Chase Rate?
Below 22% is very disciplined, 22-28% is average, 28-33% is aggressive, above 33% is a free swinger.
