Barrel Rate
Percentage of batted balls with ideal exit velocity and launch angle for extra-base hits.
Full Definition
Barrel Rate is a Statcast metric measuring the percentage of batted balls that have the optimal combination of exit velocity (98+ mph) and launch angle (26-30 degrees, expanding at higher velocities). Barreled balls result in a .500+ batting average and 1.500+ slugging percentage historically. Barrel Rate is the single best predictor of future home run production, making it invaluable for home run props and power-related bets.
What's a good Barrel Rate?
Above 12% is elite (top 10%), 8-12% is above average, 5-8% is average, below 5% is low power.
