## Tonight's Slate

- BAL at DET (Kyle Bradish vs Keider Montero), 6:40 PM

- PHI at MIA (Zack Wheeler vs Tyler Phillips), 6:40 PM
- HOU at LAA (Tatsuya Imai vs Walbert Ureña), 9:38 PM

## Baltimore Orioles at Detroit Tigers

*Kyle Bradish (RHP): 75% NRFI, 3.49 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 8.8 K/9, 4.1 BB/9. Keider Montero (RHP): 63% NRFI, 3.14 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 6.6 K/9, 1.9 BB/9. First pitch 6:40 PM ET at Comerica Park (600 ft).*

Kyle Bradish is the reason to look here, a 75% scoreless rate in the first that carries most of the weight for this lean. On the other side, Keider Montero is no pushover either at 63% NRFI, so this does not lean on one arm alone. Kyle Bradish is trending up as well, a 2.29 ERA across his last five starts against a 3.49 season mark. The pressure point is the Detroit Tigers lineup, which has handled RHP well this year at a .751 OPS in that split, so Kyle Bradish cannot afford a sloppy first. This is a clean first inning waiting to happen.

## Cleveland Guardians at Cincinnati Reds

*Slade Cecconi (RHP): 55% NRFI, 4.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 7.2 K/9, 3.0 BB/9. Chase Burns (RHP): 58% NRFI, 2.42 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 10.4 K/9, 3.3 BB/9. First pitch 7:10 PM ET at Great American Ball Park (490 ft).*

Chase Burns can end the first inning without the ball ever leaving the infield, missing bats at a 10.4 K/9 clip, and swing and miss is the cleanest path to a scoreless opening frame. Slade Cecconi is the softer side at 55% NRFI, but he only has to be ordinary in the first for this to cash. We will take NRFI here, a lean rather than a lock.

## Philadelphia Phillies at Miami Marlins

*Zack Wheeler (RHP): 50% NRFI, 2.16 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 10.5 K/9, 2.0 BB/9. Tyler Phillips (RHP): 50% NRFI, 3.52 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, 6.6 K/9, 4.1 BB/9. First pitch 6:40 PM ET at loanDepot park, indoor.*

Zack Wheeler can end the first inning without the ball ever leaving the infield, missing bats at a 10.5 K/9 clip, and swing and miss is the cleanest path to a scoreless opening frame. Tyler Phillips is the softer side at 50% NRFI, but he only has to be ordinary in the first for this to cash. Zack Wheeler's 2.0 BB/9 means the leadoff man rarely reaches, and empty bases in the first almost always mean a zero. The pressure point is the Miami Marlins lineup, which has handled RHP well this year at a .775 OPS in that split, so Zack Wheeler cannot afford a sloppy first. The loose thread is Tyler Phillips's 4.1 BB/9; an early walk is how this inning gets away. There is a small NRFI edge, nothing more, so size it lightly.

## Honorable Mentions

- **Houston Astros at Los Angeles Angels:** a combined 55% NRFI rate.
- **Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants:** a combined 47% NRFI rate.
- **New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox:** Max Fried riding a run of 3 scoreless first innings.

## Games to Avoid

These matchups carry the highest first inning scoring risk on tonight's slate.

**Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals.** David Peterson's 5.97 ERA tells the story, vulnerable early and often. This is a spot to skip.

**Seattle Mariners at Texas Rangers.** Kumar Rocker is the weak link at 18% NRFI, and the combined 34% rate sits near the bottom of the slate. We are passing here.

**Toronto Blue Jays at Washington Nationals.** Max Scherzer has surrendered a run in the first in 5 straight starts, and that trend matters more than the 17% season rate. Leave this one alone.

## Before You Lock

Confirm the starting pitchers on the [NRFI dashboard](/mlb/nrfi). A bullpen game kills NRFI value immediately. Check the weather at first pitch and be careful at altitude, Coors in particular. NRFI bets land 55% to 65% of the time historically, and you need roughly 52.4% to break even at minus 110 odds.
